Speaker Biographies
David Hourican
Interim CEO, British Business Bank

David was appointed CFO in December 2022 and interim CEO on 01 October 2026. David is an experienced finance leader, having started his career as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse and spent his early career in business development for the Home Retail Group plc before moving into banking, where he held various senior finance roles with Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc in both Dublin and Singapore.
Before joining the Bank, David was Chief Operating Officer of the Warburton Group, a private investment group based in Australia and prior to that was CFO of Kingfisher Investments and Chief Administrative Officer of Al-Futtaim Group in Singapore.
David holds a Bachelor’s in Business Studies from Trinity College Dublin and a Master of Accountancy from University College Dublin.
Axe Ali
Global Head of Fund Advisory & Private Markets, EY

Axe is EY’s Global Head of Fund Advisory & Private Markets. In this role, Axe works with Asset Allocators and Fund Managers, from building new investment strategies and investment vehicles to grow AuM, due diligence on managers for Asset Allocators, strategic and operational optimisation of Asset Allocators and Fund Managers, to M&A in the Asset and Wealth Management sector.
Prior to EY, Axe was deputy to the Chief Investment Officer at a quasi-Sovereign Wealth Fund in Europe and part of the Investment Team undertaking fund and co-investments, and leading on product strategy and development of new vehicles for private markets. Axe’s responsibilities included investment strategy, asset allocation, portfolio construction, origination and sourcing, due diligence, undertaking investments, and attendance at Investment Committees as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
Additionally, Axe was responsible for strategic transformation initiatives to enhance investment capabilities through organisational and process design, to the adoption and use of new technology, data, and analytics solutions to deliver strategic objectives and enhanced performance.
Ed Stubbings
Founder, Ternion Alternatives & Global Emerging Manager Institute

Ed is the founder of Ternion Alternatives & Global Emerging Manager Institute.
During his career, Ed has advised over 40 private capital managers on the structuring and raising of permanent capital, closed-ended fund capital, single deal financing, and has advised extensively on investor relations, marketing and communications initiatives.
The aggregate capital sought by those firms is over $30 billion.
In 2024 he founded the global trade association the Global Emerging Manager Institute, with 580 members and chapters in the UK, US, and Gulf region. The institute provides an ecosystem of content, community and capital to emerging managers and independent sponsors.
James Sargent
Co-Head of London Private Funds Group

James is Co-Head of Weil’s London Private Funds Group. He advises a wide range of global fund managers on the establishment and day-to-day operation of private investment funds, managed accounts and co-investment platforms across a range of strategies, including private equity, infrastructure, energy, real estate and credit.
He also has extensive experience advising on fund manager M&A, GP stakes transactions, GP-led secondary transactions, fund restructurings and recapitalisations, along with executive compensation arrangements.
James is listed as a “Market Leader” by IFLR and a “Leading Individual” by Legal 500, as well as being previously named in Private Funds Management’s “30 Under 40” List. James is also listed as one of the highest-ranked lawyers in Who’s Who Legal: Private Funds 2025. James co-chairs Weil London’s Communities Committee and is a senior member of the Weil London ESG Steering Group.
Ben Lloyd
Partner, 1818 Venture Capital

Ben is a Partner at 1818 Venture Capital, an early-stage fintech-focused fund connecting capital to exceptional talent.
Before moving into venture, Ben spent his career in digital banking and innovation, holding senior leadership roles including Chief Digital & Innovation Officer at Credit Agricole and raising several venture rounds for his own regulated fintech.
At 1818, he co-leads strategy, fundraising, sourcing and portfolio management, and has been closely involved in the fund's journey from launch through to building out its track record.
Agata Mackay
Senior Compliance Associate & MRLO, Midmar

Agie acts as MLRO and supports the onboarding of appointed representatives and approved persons, marketing approvals, fund closes, and internal data security.
Agata holds the ICA Certificate in Compliance and is FCA-approved for SMF17 (MLRO).
In July 2025, she was appointed Deputy Chair of the APCC Financial Crime Working Group through Midmar’s affiliated business, Gem Compliance.
